SERIES I CAPTUM BIOMORFE
Series I is a sculptural exploration of the concepts of captivity and freedom with the central reference point of second century Roman sculpture of the human body. These idealized human topographies have been abstracted and mapped across the surfaces of solid marble furniture objects. Over the top of the sculpted morphologies sits a layer of cast transparent quartz resin.
The peaks and valleys of the biomorphic surfaces can be seen in varying degrees of clarity, depending on how light meets the resin or at what angle the pieces are viewed. There is a tension between the biomorphic undulation and the material that captures it. This tension creates a perception of frozen movement... a coexistence of captivity and freedom.
Discovery
“To us, antiquity may seem cold, outdated, repetitive, dusty and boring. But inextinguishable embers still smolder beneath its ashes. It is up to us to discover them.”
- Salvatore Settis
SERIES I
The tables sit on architectural bronze columns suggesting the externally visible structures that hold fragments of ancient sculpture, which together create a sense of flotation.
The three biomorphic vases and lamp are free from the captum and sit in contrast to the furniture pieces.
Movement in Form
Series I was presented as a three-act sculptural installation, in which the individual pieces emerged as artifacts from a live performance.
SERIES II
Series II continues the exploration of the human body’s topography from Series I. Organic forms now break free from the constraints of the previous series, expanding onto new, smaller objects symbolizing liberation and transformation.

"The Greeks shape bronze statues so real they seem to breathe, and carve cold marble until it almost comes to life." - Virgil
